Torrevieja is a city and coastal municipality in the south of the province of Alicante, within the Vega Baja region. It is located in a landscape of high scenic and ecological value on the shores of the Mediterranean and next to the lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja, one of the most important wetlands in the Valencian Community and one of the most significant salt works in Europe. The municipality of Torrevieja borders Guardamar del Segura to the north, Orihuela to the south, and Los Montesinos, Rojales, and San Miguel de Salinas inland. It has 20 km of coastline: from La Mata Beach to Punta Prima there are numerous rocky coves and wide beaches, 13 in total.
