Location: Santiago de Compostela, Galicia

The location is magnificent: Santo Domingo de Bonaval Park in Santiago de Compostela is situated on a hill to the northeast of the historic city, in the San Pedro neighborhood, barely 100 meters from the traditional entrance to the City of Pilgrims via the French Way. On its southern boundary are the Convent of Santo Domingo (which houses the Museum of the Galician People and the Pantheon of Illustrious Galicians) and the Galician Center for Contemporary Art, creating a contrast between the old and the modern. It is a former estate and cemetery of the Dominican convent, restored as an urban park under a project led by the Galician architect Isabel Aguirre and the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza. The sculptor Eduardo Chillida installed here his “Gate of Music,” a 17-ton sculpture designed to frame a view of the city. The beautiful park covers 36,963 m2, and today this space has been desacralized, so it frequently serves as a venue for sacred-music concerts and other cultural events, taking advantage of its unique acoustics and nighttime charm. The walking distance between Santo Domingo de Bonaval Park and Santiago Cathedral is very short, approximately 500 to 700 meters, which is a walk of about 5 to 10 minutes, and the same distance from Plaza de Galicia.
