Over its more than 100-year history, Oberkassel has developed into Düsseldorf’s premier residential address. At the end of the 19th century, it was a popular destination for city dwellers. Soon afterwards, architect and urban planner Carl Schaumburg designed a homogeneous residential area for the upper classes, featuring magnificent bourgeois houses. Along the Rhine and its nearby streets, as well as on both sides of Luegallee, numerous examples of these splendid buildings—some in the Neoclassical style, others in the Art Nouveau style—have survived to this day. Lifestyle and esprit, charm and exclusivity characterize the restaurants and shops, theatres and galleries in this sought-after district. On the adjacent Luegallee, you will find all everyday shopping facilities, a small, enchanting market on Barbarossa Square, charming restaurants, cafés, banks and doctors in every specialty. Kindergartens and schools are within easy walking distance.
Düsseldorf city centre, with its grand boulevard Königsallee, can be reached within a few minutes by public transport or car. The nearby Rhine invites you to enjoy extended walks and leisure activities. Sports facilities and activities such as tennis, golf, extensive cycling tours and short boat trips on the Rhine are available in the immediate vicinity.
