Torrevieja is a coastal town and municipality in the south of the province of Alicante, within the Vega Baja region. It is located in an area of great scenic and ecological value on the shores of the Mediterranean and next to the La Mata and Torrevieja lagoons, one of the most important wetlands in the Valencian Community and one of the most important salt farms in Europe. The municipality of Torrevieja borders Guardamar del Segura to the north, Orihuela to the south, and Los Montesinos, Rojales and San Miguel de Salinas to the interior. It has 20 km of coastline: from La Mata Beach to Punta Prima there are numerous rocky coves and wide beaches, 13 in total. The beaches of La Mata, Los Locos, El Cura, El Acequión and Los Náufragos are particularly noteworthy. The city offers a wide range of shopping opportunities. It has 2,500 shops of all kinds. It has numerous sports associations, sports facilities, numerous educational centres, a private hospital, a public hospital, hotel facilities and shopping centres such as ‘Las Habaneras’. The Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja offers its members sailing and rowing lessons, among others. It is very well connected by air: 40 km from El Altet Airport (Alicante) and 25 km south of San Javier Airport (Murcia). By car: national road 332, Levante motorway, Mediterranean motorway and A-37 motorway. By train: various RENFE stations in Alicante, Elche and Murcia. By public transport such as bus and boat. Torrevieja has a huge port for private yachts and tourist boats offering cruises along the coast and to Tabarca Island.
