San Miguel de Salinas, covering an area of 54.90 km², is situated on a lookout point in the Sierra de Los Alcores. From the top of the hill, 100 metres above sea level, one can see the Alicante coastline and the Torrevieja Salt Lakes—a unique visual spectacle in the province. For this reason, San Miguel is known locally as the Balcony of the Costa Blanca. Located south of the Vega Baja, on the border between the provinces of Alicante and Murcia, San Miguel is just 4 km from the Mediterranean Sea. This location gives it a fairly dry climate, with very pleasant average temperatures throughout the year. The municipality of San Miguel has a privileged natural setting, particularly notable for its dense Aleppo pine forest surrounding the town, the future Sierra Escalona Nature Reserve, which includes Monte Alcores, and the Dehesa de Campoamor. Nearby are also the La Pedrera Reservoir, Peña del Águila, and the Torrevieja and La Mata Lagoons Nature Reserve. In addition, San Miguel is ideal for hiking along the routes of the former livestock trails that cross fields of citrus trees and almond trees. The Cave Houses consist of two groups of homes excavated into the rock. Some of the caves have now been restored and converted into restaurants, craft shops, and workshops. The town is easily accessible via the A-37 motorway, connected to the AP-7. It is very close to the Campoamor Golf and Las Colinas Golf & Country Club courses, as well as the “La Fuente” shopping centre. Just 10 minutes from the beaches of Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa.
