Torrevieja is a coastal city and municipality south of the province of Alicante, within the Vega Baja district. It is located in an area of high scenic and ecological value on the shores of the Mediterranean and next to the La Mata and Torrevieja Lagoons, one of the most important wetlands in the Valencian Community and one of Europe’s most important saltworks. The municipality of Torrevieja borders Guardamar del Segura to the north, Orihuela to the south, and inland with Los Montesinos, Rojales and San Miguel de Salinas. It has 20 km of coastline: from La Mata Beach to Punta Prima there are numerous rocky coves and wide beaches, 13 in total. Notable beaches include La Mata, Los Locos, El Cura, El Acequión and Los Náufragos. The city offers a wide range of shopping opportunities, with 2,500 shops of all kinds. By car: National Road N-332, the Levante motorway, the Mediterranean motorway and the A-37 motorway. By train: various RENFE stations in Alicante, Elche and Murcia. By public transport such as bus, and by boat. Torrevieja has a huge marina for private yachts and tourist boats offering cruises along the entire coast and to Tabarca Island.
