Nea Makri is an area of northeastern Attica and belongs to the municipality of Marathon. It is bordered to the north by the historic city of Marathon, to the south by Rafina, to the west with the Pendeli Mountain and Dionysos and is bordered by the South Evian Gulf on a coastline of about 14 km. It is 32 km away from the centre of Athens, which can be reached via Attica road or via Messogion Avenue. Its main roads are Marathonos Avenue and Dionysos Avenue, which connects the area directly with the northern suburbs of the basin. The distance from Athens El. Venizelos airport is 18 km away, while the port of Rafina is 10 km away, with ferry lines connecting the area with southern Evia and the Cyclades islands. While it started as an area of holiday and vacation homes, in recent years it has become a permanent residence for many people. Its permanent population is about 14,000 inhabitants and in summer it exceeds 55,000 to 60,000, as it has several permanent holidaymakers with holiday homes. Areas of Nea Makri include Zouberi, Agia Marina, Mati, Agios Andreas and part of Neos Voutzas. It has beautiful and clean beaches and is located 10 minutes away from the long, sandy beach of Schinias.
