Agios Stefanos is a lush, green suburb located in the northeastern part of Attica, nestled between the mountains of Penteli and Parnitha and just a few kilometers from Lake Marathon. Its history begins with the 1923 Greek–Turkish population exchange agreement, when around one hundred families from the greater Constantinople area and Asia Minor arrived here after great hardship. At that time, the only thing that existed in the area was the train station named Oion. The refugees established what became known as Neo Voyiati, or Agios Stefanos. Agios Stefanos is surrounded by pine forests and is well-known among Athenians for its pleasant and cool climate during the summer months. Its population continues to grow, mainly from residents of central Athens who are seeking better living conditions. Additionally, unlike neighboring municipalities that are primarily residential, the local market of Agios Stefanos is quite large and vibrant. The suburban railway station and the easy access to the national highway make commuting within the Attica basin very convenient.
