North of the center of Athens, Agios Nikolaos is a busy residential and commercial area. The central avenue of Acharnon is a busy, tree-lined avenue with a wide variety of shops and cafes. The highlights of the area are the 19th century Church of Agios Nikolaos, the Byzantine Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the house of Lela Karagiannis, the former residence of a World War II resistance leader.
