Dioni is an area on the boundaries of the former community of Pikermi, Attica, and the current Municipality of Rafina–Pikermi. It is one of the up-and-coming areas of Mesogeia, with significant building activity. It is a purely residential area and consists mainly of detached houses and maisonettes, as the construction of apartment buildings is prohibited. Its population is estimated at around 400 families. Since 2007 the area has begun to be supplied with water by EYDAP. It borders Pikermi, Drafi and Agios Spyridon. Very close to the settlement there are the modern sports facilities of Pikermi, as well as a local bus serving short local routes. The distance from the settlement to the center of Pikermi is about 3 minutes by car and 10 minutes to Pallini, where the suburban rail station is located, with services to Athens or to Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”. The entrance to Attiki Odos is 5 km away, next to which is one of the largest shopping centers in Attica, McArthurGlen, which attracts and serves people from many areas of the Athens metropolitan basin. However, Dioni is also in a key location due to its distance from the second-largest port of Attica, Rafina, from where daily routes depart for the Cyclades islands. Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” is also about 15 minutes from the area. Finally, it should be noted that works have already begun for the extension of the suburban rail to the area, which will also have a station that will serve its residents more directly.
