Paiania is an eastern suburb of Athens, located approximately 18 km from the center of Athens and 14 km from Athens International Airport. Paiania was one of the wealthiest municipalities of ancient Athens and the birthplace of the famous orator Demosthenes, whose likeness, along with a vine leaf—a feature of the Mediterranean flora characterizing the area—adorns the city's emblem. The city is built on the slopes of Mount Hymettus, surrounded by arable land. The area is renowned for its picturesque taverns, but many are unaware of its incredible folklore and historical tradition. In the city center, you will find King Constantine's Square, which features the imposing Church of Zoodochos Pigi. In 2004, with the establishment of the International Airport in the heart of the Mediterranean and the subsequent developments, it acquired good transport connections with neighboring areas and Athens. Paiania is 30 minutes by car from the center of Athens and just 15 minutes from Athens International Airport. The suburb has access to the Attiki Odos and the Hymettus Peripheral Road, the Suburban Railway, and the Athens Metro via the "Kantza" station. In Paiania, you will find the Vorres Museum of Folk and Contemporary Art, the Foundation of the European Art Center (EUARCE) Greece, and the "Koutouki" Cave, the largest of the 60 caves found in Athens.
