Eclectic life

Moving between Athens, Mykonos, Gstaad and London, Themis Zouganeli transforms memory into a design statement

For Themis Zouganeli, a table is never just a collection of objects. It is a space of connection, memory and energy, an atmosphere that takes shape even before the first plate is set. This is exactly where her creative process begins. “Every pattern I design starts from the atmosphere I want to create around a table, moments of hospitality, togetherness and effortless elegance,” she says.

THEMIS Z approaches neither fashion design as a trend nor art de la table as mere decoration. Both are expressions of a way of life, cultural gestures that engage with memory, everyday rituals and lived experience.

It is a lifestyle brand that connects to Greek heritage without reducing it to symbolism or narrative. Instead, it integrates it naturally through motifs, lines and repetitions inspired by everyday life in Athens, the light, the contrasts, the architecture, the city’s energy. “Each pattern is born from moments of daily life in Athens,” she explains.

Raised between Athens and Mykonos, she learned early on that style is not about display, but about experience. Her father, active in nightlife and spatial aesthetics, introduced her to the importance of atmosphere and the overall experience. Her mother, with an international career in fashion, taught her the value of understated luxury.

“Simplicity is where elegance lies.” For Themis, her parents were the first to shape her creative eye, not as artists in the professional sense, but as “artists of life,” with aesthetic consistency and a deep understanding of balance. From this dual influence emerged a holistic approach to design, where refinement meets ease.

Geometry plays a central role in her work, not as a rigid system, but as a quiet foundation. “I love geometry and repetitive patterns. They calm me,” she says. Through clean proportions and balance, her patterns do not impose themselves on a space, they accompany it.

They remain timeless yet contemporary, independent of trends. Her palette moves in soft, understated tones, beige, white, brown, ecru, colors that act as a backdrop to life and allow objects to breathe.

Her creative process is, above all, reflective. It begins with observation, the gathering of images, impressions and sensations. It starts with considering how she wants someone to feel when interacting with an object. Only once that intention is clear does experimentation begin.

Silence is essential. “Complete silence in the studio. The music is in my head.” Materials such as silk, linen and cotton interact with ceramic, wood and glass, creating an ongoing dialogue between fashion and object.

Her experience abroad proved formative. America taught her discipline and dedication, while London introduced her to a more refined and sophisticated approach to aesthetics. Yet everything returns to the consistency of a personal value system. “THEMIS Z is built on ethical and aesthetic codes that go beyond trends.”

Quality, timelessness, craftsmanship. Her collaboration with Dior Maison was not a departure, but a validation. “I designed for Dior through the lens of THEMIS Z.” The fact that production was carried out by the brand itself highlighted the craftsmanship of Greek making. “It was an experience that gave me great confidence.”

At the heart of the brand are the Kyma and Serenity patterns, her first designs, which “contain its entire philosophy.” Greek, contemporary and timeless. The handmade porcelain Kyma plate embodies this approach, quiet luxury, artisanal quality, Greek identity.

For Themis, art de la table is alive and generous. “More is more in art de la table,” she says, while quickly adding that the most important element is the positive energy of the hosts. Ultimately, what brings a table to life is not the objects, but the people.

When she speaks about inspiration, she returns to the personal, her two daughters. “I want them to be proud of me.” To leave behind a story with substance. Because luxury, as she defines it, is not about display. “It is elegance, quality and substance in everything.” Only then can it truly stand the test of time.
