Villa Gera, the Treasure of Conegliano

We are standing in front of Villa Gera, an imposing presence resting on the Hill of Giano. From afar, its majestic profile welcomes us, drawing, along with the Castle, the skyline of Conegliano. As we approach, it's as if we can sense the echo of stories and encounters these walls have hosted. We enter at the garden level, through one of the two entrances. We find ourselves in a passing hall, once a transit area for carriages, which opens onto side rooms. From here, a red stone bifurcated staircase invites us to ascend. Each step we take brings us closer to the pulsating heart of the villa. On the noble floor, a large vaulted hall unfolds before us, a true triumph of frescoes. Scenes from the life of Julius Caesar, painted by Giovanni Antonio De Min, surround us: the victory over the Helvetii, the crossing of the Alps, the triumph in Rome, and the Ides of March. The breath of time seems almost tangible in this environment. Around the hall, in a perfect symmetrical scheme, are four lounges, each with its own atmosphere. From here, or directly from the hall, one can access the imposing pronaos, which faces south, offering a suggestive view of the city center. Ascending further, we reach the second floor, where spaces once intended for the private apartment are located. Higher up, the loggia offers a breathtaking view. The gaze is free to wander, from the city rooftops to the gentle profile of the UNESCO hills and the Castle. As we exit, we notice the significant agricultural building adjacent to the villa and the remains of the ancient burnt wing, of which only the outer walls remain, a silent testament to a past that has transformed. The park, about 2 hectares, envelops us with its greenery. The Prosecco Docg vineyard, the orchard, and the garden create a harmonious landscape bordering the ancient Carraresi walls of the castle. Here, a reserved access to the above walkway testifies to the deep connection between the villa and the city's history. Villa Gera has profoundly impressed us.
