Description

Upon crossing the entrance gate of this captivating sixteenth-century historic palace in the heart of Strevi, you'll immediately sense that it's no ordinary dwelling. Every corner, every piece of furniture has been thoughtfully chosen by the owners, renowned fashion designers, creating a unique and inviting ambiance. An original 1612 coat of arms belonging to the noble Monte Grassi family recalls the property's past as a summer residence. The elegant entrance hall boasts a precious diamond-shaped marble floor leading to the spacious living room with its authentic restored ceiling and antique oak parquet framed by a precious onyx border. Dominating the scene is an exquisite white marble French fireplace from the Louis XVI era. The dining room leaves visitors in awe with its frescoes dating back to 1532 and an emblem from the 18th century featuring a majestic lion. The 17th-century Italian gray Bardiglio marble fireplace adds to its charm. The chef's kitchen features an stainless-steel island and a refined hand-painted cotto di Minturno floor with a geometric pattern. On the ground floor, a cozy garden room opens onto a terrace with stone-columned balustrades. The beautifully restored staircase leads to the sleeping area, where five double bedrooms await, each with a private bathroom adorned with Devon&Devon accessories. Vaulted ceilings and terracotta or painted wood floors add to the allure. A balcony from the corridor offers breathtaking views of Strevi's charming historical district and the courtyard with its unique synergistic vegetable, flower, and plant garden. The garden in front of the palace boasts a long gravel avenue leading to the 12x3 stone swimming pool with a fountain, accompanied by an adjacent service porch under completion. The property includes a two-story rustic building with renovation potential and a spectacular historic cellar on the semi-basement floor.

Location: Strevi, Piedmont

Strevi is a charming town of about 2000 inhabitants which rises near the Bormida river, 30 km from the capital Alessandria and 7 km from the spa town of Acqui Terme. The main nucleus consists of the two villages, upper and lower. The most recent settlements are also developed to the north and south of the oldest inhabited area, along the former state road 30 which passes right in between the two villages. These settlements have become much more peaceful and liveable with the construction of a variant that goes around the village, drastically reducing vehicular traffic. Strevi is famous for the production of particular biscuits called "amaretti". Its sunny slopes are known for their wine production and there are 3 wine producers including notable cantina Banfi, a short distance from the house. The original Medieval part of the village remains and there are remains of the 15th century walls, including two towers. Among the most interesting monumental emblems are: the remains of the ancient castle, now the seat of the Municipality, remodeled over the centuries; the remains of a medieval bridge that crossed the defensive moat; the parish church of San Michele, renovated in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by the Alexandrian architect Caselli; the episcopal villa, obtained in the fourteenth century from an ancient convent. The villa of the Grassi counts as one of the oldest and most important houses in the lower village, due to its dating we may refer to a fresco inside it where you can read the date 1532.
