Location: Besozzo, Lombardy

Besozzo is a town of about 9,000 inhabitants, known since Roman times and with buildings inhabited since the Middle Ages. Besozzo offers all the necessary services to live in a unique atmosphere, as well as a railway station with a line connected to both Malpensa and Luino and thus to Switzerland. Not far away is the city of Laveno, a very important tourist center. Laveno embraces many landscapes: we are in northern Italy, but the climate is Mediterranean and the panorama ranges from the water to the mountain peaks. Particularly important is the marina, which, through the ferry service, connects the city with Intra, on the Piedmontese shore, from where it is possible to visit the Borromean Islands and other beauties of the lake. Above the city rises the Sasso del Ferro, one of the most appreciated panoramic points of Lake Maggiore, also by hang gliding and paragliding enthusiasts. From a tourist point of view, Laveno Mombello is one of the most easily accessible destinations on the lake and well connected to the major Lombard centers: the Ferrovie Nord, which connects it with Varese and then with Milan, arrive a few meters from the lake, very close to the center; the State Railways connect it to Switzerland; the Autostrada dei Laghi is easily reachable both through the Besozzo-Vergiate highway at the height of Sesto Calende, and through the lake, towards Gravellona Toce. The center today offers tourists a remarkable lakeside promenade with arcaded buildings and pedestrian paths. The city also offers various shopping opportunities. It was also an important center for the production of ceramics and porcelain. The historic center houses the beautiful Villa De Angeli Frua, which is worth a visit also for its renowned botanical park. Not far from Laveno is also the Hermitage of S. Caterina del Sasso: a jewel set in the rock overlooking the waters of Lake Maggiore.
