The property is situated in Imperia, near the old hamlet of Porto Maurizio, perched on a promontory in a quiet position from which it is easy to reach the Borgo Prino seafront walkway, with its bars, typical local cuisine restaurants, cafès and pizzerias. Porto Maurizio, which together with Oneglia make up Imperia, is situated on a promontory over the sea. Its historical center known as Parrasio is an intertwining of narrow ‘carruggi’ and ‘creuze’ (alleyways and walkways) amidst period buildings. Among the many beautiful examples of neoclassical religious architecture there is the San Maurizio Basilica church, which is the largest church in Liguria; the baroque Santa Chiara church to which is connected a stunning open portico which dominates the sea from above and incorporates an old Saracen Tower; the San Maurizio Baroque Parish church which has interior frescoes painted by Tomaso Carrega. Surrounding this historical center there are various old fisherman hamlets: Borgo Prino with its typical buildings painted in typical Ligurian colours, all facing the sea along the promenade, with pebbled and sandy beaches just below, and typical bars and restaurants; Borgo Foce, with its little harbour for ‘Gozzo’ fishing boats, is connected, via a scenic and picturesque walkway overlooking the sea, to Borgo Marina with its sandy beaches and Marina, where the Calata Anselmi dockside hosts the yearly Vele d’Epoca international classic sailing boats festival. Once a town dedicated to sea navigation, but above all to the production and trading of olive oil for which it was famous throughout the Mediterranean, today Porto Maurizio, thanks to its beaches, Marina and climate, is mainly a tourist destination.
