Location: Carloforte, Sardinia
The property is located in the historic centre of Carloforte, an island village founded by Ligurian families on the Island of San Pietro, at the south-western tip of Sardinia. The village has preserved the language and culture of the founding fishing families originally from Pegli and later arriving from the Tunisian island of Tabarka. Carloforte is the island’s only town and is characterised by picturesque alleyways, sea views, the aromas of traditional seafood cuisine, and vibrant splashes of colour. Particularly distinctive are its small harbour and ancient defensive fortifications. The island’s coastline is a succession of rugged cliffs and hidden coves. Highlights include the beautiful Cala Vinagra, Cala Fico, Capo Sandalo — dominated by Italy’s westernmost 19th-century lighthouse — La Bobba, the dramatic cliffs of La Conca, and Le Colonne, two sea stacks rising from the water that have become symbols of Carloforte. For boat owners, San Pietro is a true paradise. Carloforte’s cuisine bursts with aromas and traditions, celebrated during the historic Girotonno festival (held in May and June), an internationally renowned gastronomic event, as well as the Tabarkino couscous festival, a precious expression of the cultural fusion between Liguria and Tunisia, of which Carloforte is a unique enclave. Every year, the famous Creuza de mä festival also takes place here, a Carloforte event dedicated to film soundtracks.
