Erice, also known as U Munti in Sicilian, is a medieval village in the province of Trapani, located at the northwestern tip of Sicily. At 750 meters above sea level, Erice offers an excellent panoramic position. From the gardens of Balio surrounding the Pepoli Castle, the panoramic view overlooks Trapani and the salt flats, the Egadi Islands on one side, and on the other side, Mount Cofano, the Gulf of Castellammare, and the coast leading to San Vito lo Capo. A mythical meeting of art, history, and landscape, Erice summit preserves its medieval center practically intact, perfectly integrated with both the mountain's structure and the surrounding nature. In a perfect triangular shape, the town is bordered on the western side by cyclopean walls, interrupted by towers and the three Norman gates: Porta Spada, Porta del Carmine, and Porta Trapani. Walking through the streets of Erice, one is inevitably struck by the scents of traditional Erice pastries and the colors and decorations of typical artisanal products, such as carpets and ceramics. The city has now established itself as one of Sicily's main tourist destinations. On the other hand, it is part of the circuit of "The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy" as an Honorary Guest.
