The beautiful word “joie de vivre” comes to mind when you drive up the winding road to the country house: in front of the entrance there is an open, central area, which the owners smilingly call “our helicopter landing pad.” And with the same sense of humor, love of beautiful things, and of life itself, you continue through a heavy door made of solid precious hardwood into the spacious yet welcoming hall of the house, which one can in good conscience call a small castle. In France it would probably be a “Château du Cœur,” a castle of the heart … Behind every material choice made during construction in 2011/2012 lies the joy of using those materials—every day. Whether it is the illuminated built-in cupboards made of high-quality, old pine wood, the fine Marés stone or the marble in the bathroom, the indirect (and dimmable) lighting recessed into walls and ceilings, or the veranda roof beams that cleverly look like wood yet never rot: everything here is well thought out and made with quality. By the way, only local Mallorcan companies worked here. The house has four double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, each of which has a window that can be tilted open with a fly screen in front of it. All bedrooms have TV connections and are pre-installed for central air conditioning. One of the bedrooms has a Fichet Bauche safe. The lower-level living area, which as a classic souterrain still receives daylight, contains, in addition to the garage (with direct access to the house), a wine refrigerator that will make any wine lover’s eyes light up. It is the natural complement to the large country-style eat-in kitchen, which opens onto the covered banquet veranda, from where just a few steps lead into the garden and to the saltwater pool with outdoor shower. A wonderful setting for culinary evenings, hospitality, and shared time with family and friends. The professionally maintained garden is also productive—from lemons and pomelos to the harvest from the 32 olive trees, which in the last season yielded 45 liters of finest olive oil. Underfloor heating is powered by an oil-fired central heating system; solar panels provide hot water. A private, authorized well supplies garden, house and a water reserve via three cisterns, with the water for the house being filtered and descaled. The equipment for the pool electrolysis is new! And the electricity comes from the town of Artà, which can also be seen from the upper terrace.

The charming center of the medieval artists’ town of Artà in northeastern Mallorca offers numerous cozy restaurants, cafés, and shops that invite you to stroll year-round. The weekly market, held every Tuesday, is known throughout the island. A varied cultural program is offered, among other places, at the town theater. The area around Artà provides a wide range of leisure activities with many natural beaches and four golf courses. Two marinas are also located nearby.
