Localisation : Caronno Varesino, Lombardie
Caronno Varesino was once called Caronno Ghiringhello. In Caronno, specifically in the Travaino area, a necropolis was discovered, likely dating back to the 1st century BC and lasting until the 3rd-4th century AD, through which it is possible to trace the transition of a population from Celtic to Roman culture. The current territory of Caronno Varesino was once inhabited by the Celts and then the Romans, whose military colony included Caronno along with Carnago, Morazzone, Castelseprio, Castiglione Olona, and Tradate. It is only in the 1400s that some information about the town begins to emerge; in particular, there is knowledge of a convent of nuns that stood where the parish church dedicated to St. Vincent is currently located, with the oratory preserved and restored in 1937. The first inhabitants came from the Travaino hamlet and settled around the monastery, giving rise to the Caronno community, adding their surname, Ghiringhelli, from which the town's name was derived until 1927, when it ceased to be part of the province of Como to join that of Varese, changing from Caronno Ghiringhello to Caronno Varesino. Inhabited by a few thousand people, most of whom work in neighboring towns or in the capital, Caronno Varesino is also a residential town for some families who have built villas here to spend weekends or a few days of vacation away from the chaos of big cities. The tranquility and clean air are the main attractions of a town that does not possess significant works of art, except for a San Carlo attributed to Morazzone, present in the parish church of St. Vincent.
