Cadenabbia, in the municipality of Griante, occupies one of the most recognisable spots on the western shore of Lake Como. The town retains a distinct historical character, linked to the lake’s tradition of hospitality and a long-standing international presence. Bellagio lies opposite, whilst all around the landscape is characterised by lakeside promenades, historic villas, gardens and views that have made this stretch of Lake Como one of the most popular in the central part of the lake. A short distance away lies Villa Carlotta, with its historical, artistic and botanical heritage, one of the lake’s best-known and most visited destinations; throughout the season, the villa also hosts a rich programme of exhibitions, guided tours, walks and events dedicated to art and nature. Cadenabbia and the Tremezzina area also stand out for the variety of experiences they offer throughout the year. In summer, the area comes alive with major cultural events, such as the LacMus Festival – an international classical music festival held in some of the lake’s most iconic venues – and the historic Festival of St John on Isola Comacina, one of the region’s most representative events. From a gastronomic perspective too, Cadenabbia and the Tremezzina retain a distinct identity, linked to the cuisine of the Lake of Como region and the flavours of the lake, which remain an integral part of the local experience. In autumn, this culinary tradition finds particular expression in the Tremezzina Gastronomica, a festival dedicated to seasonal produce and local traditions. For those who also enjoy active leisure pursuits, the Lake Como Greenway ends right in Cadenabbia – a walk of around 10 km that follows sections of the ancient Strada Regina and passes through some of the most beautiful spots in the Tremezzina area; the Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club, founded in 1907 and considered one of the oldest in Italy, is also located in the immediate vicinity; and for those who enjoy alternating between the lake and the mountains, the location also allows easy access to some of the most famous ski resorts in the Alps, such as Madesimo, Bormio and the Engadin/St. Moritz area.
