Paiania is an eastern suburb of Athens located around 18km from the Athens city centre and 14km from the international airport of Athens. Paiania was one of the richest municipalities of ancient Athens and the place of origin of the famous Orator Demosthenes, who has given his form to the emblem of the city along with a vine leaf, an element of the Mediterranean flora that characterizes the area. The city is built on the outskirts of Mount Hymettus, surrounded by arable land.
