Gerakas is a municipal community and the seat of the Municipality of Pallini in the Regional Unit of East Attica, within the Region of Attica. It is located on the northeastern edge of the Athens Urban Complex and is considered a northern suburb of Athens. The population of the area is 30,000, the area covers 11 square kilometers, and the density is 2,722 inhabitants per square kilometer according to the 2011 census. Known neighborhoods of Gerakas include Gargittos, Stavros, and Balana. It borders Agia Paraskevi, Penteli, and Chalandri. It is a suburb that has experienced rapid development in recent years. With the passage of the Attiki Odos and the metro, its character changed dramatically, transforming into an urban area of Athens with simultaneous modernization of its infrastructure. In the northwestern part of the area lies the Koufos Hill (at the foothills of the observatory) on the border with the Pentelikos settlement of Agios Dimitrios. Gerakas is being developed at a fast pace following the establishment of the Doukissis Plakentias metro station, without losing its urban beauty. By law, houses are constructed only with tiled roofs, there are many parks, and generally, it is a beautiful environment for families with children.
