The municipality of Brissago is located on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore, southwest of Ascona on the border with Italy. The garden was built in 1885 by the baroness Antoinette de Saint Léger and expanded by the subsequent owners of the islands, the department store millionaire Max Emden, from 1927.
