The licence region of Neuchâtel – Facts & figures

Our licence region of Neuchâtel does not just cover the canton of the same name. The Tramelan municipality in the canton of Bern forms the eastern boundary of the region. In all, the licence region includes 45 municipalities which in total offer a revenue potential of around CHF 2.3 million. Here, the cities of Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds certainly play a key role.

The birth town of one of the most influential architects of the 20th century, Le Corbusier, is located in the Jura highlands. This town is also one of the most popular watchmaking towns in Switzerland, La Chaux-de-Fonds.


The municipality of Neuchâtel is located south of the north bank of the lake of the same name. It is well-known beyond the country’s borders not merely because it is a university town, but thanks to the charm of the town highlighted by the medieval town centre, the castle and the collegiate church from the 12th century. Both towns form the centre of our licence region, and are therefore predestined as the location for a new property shop.

Property market – Level and dynamics for single-family homes are stagnating, increasing prices for owner-occupied homes

In Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds, the prices, offer and construction activity for single-family homes are stagnating. Conversely, owner-occupied homes seem to be flourishing. Their prices have increased while the offer has remained the same. Among other things, the “Transjurane” motorway has boosted the new construction of home projects along the Jura mountains. In this way, individual municipalities in the licence region of Neuchâtel are recording an increase of approved new construction projects of over 50 %. All these factors are having a positive influence on the potential and the attractiveness of our licence region.

The most in-demand areas – La Chaux-de-Fonds and Neuchâtel

The most sought-after areas in the licence region of Neuchâtel are certainly the centre areas in Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds. In Neuchâtel, these are above all properties on the edge of the lake or with a view of the lake, which enjoy a great deal of popularity. La Chaux-de-Fonds is a highly desired area for life and work because of its watch industry.
