Bern licence area - Facts & Figures

The city of Bern is a municipality and the capital of the canton of the same name. As the "federal city", it performs the function of the capital for Switzerland. As the seat of the municipal and large parts of the cantonal and federal administration, it is the largest centre of public administration in the country.

The "Zähringerstadt", founded in 1191, has been partly preserved in its original form with its characteristic arcades. A Free Imperial City since 1218, Bern joined the Swiss Confederation in 1353 and developed into the largest city-state north of the Alps by the 16th century. In 1983, Bern's Old Town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The city has a total population of 134,290 (as of 31 December 2021). After Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Lausanne, and ahead of Winterthur, it is one of the most populous municipalities in Switzerland. In the Bern agglomeration, which includes 70 municipalities, the permanent resident population is 422,706 (as of 2021).

For years, Bern has been listed with Zurich and Geneva as one of the cities with the highest cost of living worldwide. Engel & Völkers is already represented in the surrounding regions with offices in Biel, Solothurn and Montreux as well as in Fribourg. For the Bern licence we are looking for a successor solution which, among many other things, will positively influence the cross-selling and feeder system of Engel & Völkers in the greater Bern area as well as nationally and internationally. This circumstance will in turn have a profitable effect on our own sales figures. With its approximately 53,000 owner-occupied households, the Bern licence area offers a sales potential of over CHF 3 million.

Are you interested in the real estate market in the Bern licence area and would you like to become part of the successful Engel & Völkers franchise system and write your own success story? Bern - trendy city with high cultural potential

Bern is a lively city with a high cultural potential. In Bern's old town, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, you will find numerous museums, such as the Art Museum, which opened in 1879 and houses works from eight centuries.

Whether you want to splash around in one of the free outdoor pools, enjoy gelato in one of the many gelaterias and cafés, or hike through the picturesque Gantrisch Nature Park - the possibilities for excursions and experiences are almost endless in Bern.

The mix of residential and commercial areas and the central location with a variety of excursion destinations in the immediate vicinity also give the city a special appeal as a place to live.

Real estate market - little supply and high demand

As in many regions, there is a small supply of real estate in Bern at the moment, but demand remains high. Living in the country's capital seems to be following a big trend, which of course in turn has a positive effect on the price trend.

Most sought-after locations - from the Länggasse-Felsnau district to the municipality of Köniz

Some of the most popular residential locations in Bern are the districts of Länggasse-Felsnau, Kirchfeld-Schosshalde and Breitenrain-Lorraine. In the surrounding area of Bern, the municipalities of Köniz with the village of Spiegel, Ostermundigen and Bolligen are very popular.
