Canosio: Location and surroundings of this property
The township Preit is an hamlet of Canosio, in Valle Maira (1540 m a.s.l.), where the neat alpine architectures are perfectly preserved, the object of a careful safeguard work.
The village of Preit is made up of stone houses arranged neatly on the side of the mountain along the road that climbs to the Gardetta plateau, a large plateau recognized, in 2001, as an Italian Geological Heritage. The plateau is surrounded by high peaks among which the sharp and dizzying spire of Rocca la Meja stands out.
In the buildings of Preit there are some peculiarities that distinguish them. The use of stone prevails over that of wood. The roofing of the houses is made with lose stones, resting on the wooden frame. Widespread in the hamlets of the municipality of Canosio is the typology of the house-village, which provides for the grouping of different housing units and spaces used as stables and barns under a single large roof, around a central nucleus and connecting elements, such as covered.
Summer and winter tourism has also developed in recent years, conquering a niche of excellence among foreign and Italian mountain guides, who have the opportunity to offer their customers itineraries of wild beauty. Climbing enthusiasts can switch from historic itineraries to more modern and demanding routes. Thanks to its unique and favorable microclimate, we find various plant species such as: the edelweiss, the yarrow, the juniper or the queen of the alps.
As far as the fauna is concerned, it is not uncommon to hear marmots whistling or to meet deer or chamois and animals typical of the Asian steppes such as: the ptarmigan, the variable hare, the black grouse, the ermine or a flying buzzard.
