Colle Guasco in Ancona with the Cathedral of San Ciriaco at its top welcomes tourists both arriving from the sea and from the coast: the church is a beautiful Romanesque-Byzantine architecture, introduced by a beautiful Gothic portal; the place is incomparable for bringing together the whole city in a single glance. Right below the hill lies the port, with the Arch of Trajan, symbol of the Roman city, and the Clementine Arch, a sign of the centuries under the Pope. At a certain distance, inside the Maritime Station, you can recognize the medieval nucleus of the city, which grew up around the Loggia dei Mercanti and the church of Santa Maria della Piazza. A little further on, open onto the port, is Piazza della Repubblica, with the Teatro delle Muse and Corso Garibaldi which flows into Piazza Cavour. In the background, the eighteenth-century Mole Vanvitelliana, a pentagonal fortress, now home to cultural events.
Also noteworthy are the Archaeological Museum of the Marche and the Civic Art Gallery, for an artistic excursus from Greece to modern painting.
