Pieve Santo Stefano is a municipality located in one of the four valleys in the province of Arezzo called 'Casentino' characterised by extensive forests alternating with green pastures at the valley floor.
The area is famous for its many monasteries and ancient hermitages set in lush beech and fir forests, including the famous Sanctuary of La Verna, where Saint Francis went with his disciples for periods of meditation and prayer.
The museum of medicinal herbs and the San Sepolcro civic museum, which houses four marvellous paintings by the artist Piero Della Francesca, are just some of the places to visit in the area, along with trekking or mountain-biking routes in the suggestive forest of the Alpe della Luna, a nature reserve in the Tuscan Apennines.
