Pregàsina is a tiny village nestled on a hill overlooking Lake Garda at an altitude of 535 m. a.s.l. The village lies 10 km away from Riva del Garda and can be reached in 15 minutes by car. The tunnel of about 950 meters that connects Pregasina directly to the highway SS240 was completed only in 1993. This isolation allowed the small peasant community to keep intact its "out of time" flavour. Until the end of I. World War this territory belonged to the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and was identified in German language with "Pregasen". The whole mountain area was part of the war front between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy, and it preserves interesting military structures such as bunkers, tunnels and trenches on the mountains overlooking it (see Peak Nodice, 859 m. a.s.l.) Until 1953, Pregasina was accessible only by a mule track that went up directly from Riva del Garda. A road was finally built that connected it through a stone bridge to the stunning Strada del Ponale (built in 1848 and leading to Val di Ledro). This old road - now only for pedestrian and cyclists - has become a must-do trekking for those who climb from Riva del Garda via the panoramic road of Ponale, up to the breathtaking views of Punta Larici and Passo della Rocchetta.
