How many times did you think that changing home would have been like a change in life? But now that you are ready to take this step, it suddenly feels scary, especially because of all the bureaucratic fulfillments. Don’t worry, the process is easier than you think, also thanks to the fact that many services are now digital.
First of all, we suggest you check the website of your municipality and those related to the different utility providers, where you can find useful information and see how much paperwork you can carry out online. Let’s see the main steps you should look after.
When you move to another house in the same municipality (change of house) or to a new city (change of residence), the first thing to do is tell the registry office. “How long do I have to change my residence after I buy a new property?” This is without the shadow of a doubt one of the questions mainly nagging us when it comes to moving out. The answer is easy: 20 days from the moment you move into the new home. Before moving to a new house, you don’t have specific obligations, except for those related to the benefits of buying a “first-home”. In that case, the change of residence must be taken out within 18 months from the purchase of the property, in order not to lose the benefits.
Just don’t forget that many further steps depend on this passage, so the real answer would be “as soon as possible”. In order to change your residence, you have to go to the registry office and make a formal request, which can be done by one of the family members, no matter who. Then the office transmits your new address to the DVLA and the MOT and they carry out all paperwork related to the vehicle ownership and the driving license. Once you change the residence, you will have an updated certificate and a new electoral card. In Venice, you can both make this change at the related office and online by email and digital ID (SPID, CIE, CNS). All forms are available online.
When you move to a new house you have to cancel the old utilities and sign a contract for new ones. The new owner of your old house can take over the utilities and it will be up to him to notify the different providers by means of a simple transfer of service or you can proceed to terminate the contracts. The same goes for our new home. If the utilities have been deactivated but the counters are still there, you can just make an activation request.
If the counters have been removed, you will have to submit a connection request, which implies a higher price and also more time.

What else is missing? You’ll have to change your general practitioner. You can proceed by asking the health district (usually also online). The answer is normally fast. Changing home after so many years implies that other people who are part of our daily lives must also be notified. We are not talking about relatives, but about banks, insurance companies, feline registry offices, if we are professionals and so on. Sometimes, however, it is easier done than said thanks to forms that can be filled out online and the use of the certified e-mail.
