Amenities and special features of this house

As you approach this grand Victorian house, you can feel a sense of enchantment in the air. The house seems to be alive with magic and wonder, its every detail carefully crafted to transport you to another world. As you gaze up at the house, your eyes are drawn to the striking sight of a single tall fan palm standing sentinel over the property, a symbol of strength and elegance, its beauty adds a touch of magic to the already captivating Victorian house.

Yellowwood Lodge is a stunning 15-bedroom Victorian guest house located in the heart of Knysna along South Africa’s stunning Garden Route. This grand heritage home was originally built in 1904 under the name, Grendon, and has since been beautifully restored to retain its classic charm and elegance. With its intricate wooden finishes, antique furnishings and ornate decor, Yellowwood Lodge is a true masterpiece of Victorian architecture. The main house is two stories with steep, gabled roofs and a unique weathervane that pulls the eye to the top of the house. The weathervane’s design is inspired by the owner’s love of fairy tales and is designed with a crescent moon, a black cat and a frog. The black cat is chasing the frog, representing the pursuit of transformation and growth while the crescent moon symbolises magic and enchantment. This property with its wrap-around porch, accented with gingerbread cutouts and spindle work, evokes a feeling of stepping back in time to a bygone magical era reminiscent of Alice’s adventures in Wonderland.

As you step through the stained glass front door, you find yourself in a foyer that leads to a series of enchanting rooms, each with its own unique charm and character. The lounge is both elegant and whimsical, filled with books and cosy armchairs, a sparkling chandelier hangs overhead, casting a warm and welcoming glow while the old world fireplace adds further appeal. The dining room is adorned with delicate grey toile blinds and wooden tables with seating for 20 guests. At the heart of the kitchen is the original Aga, a beautiful, cast-iron cooker. With its classic design and timeless style, the Aga adds a touch of warmth and coziness to the room, making it the perfect spot for a hearty breakfast or a family dinner.

As you ascend to the upper floor of this Victorian-era property, you’ll find yourself greeted by a stunning original handcrafted winding ship-style wooden staircase with a stinkwood gate installed at the landing on top. The steps are crafted from rich wood, which creaks slightly underfoot, adding to the charm and character of the home.

But it is the bedrooms that truly transport you to a magical realm. Each room is like a portal to a different fairytale and uniquely decorated with a perfect blend of classic and modern touches. Some with ornate four-poster beds draped in luxurious fabrics and intricate furnishings while another features an original Victorian-era clawfoot bathtub. The property boasts 12 suites, sleeping 28 guests each with their own en-suite bathroom, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay for all guests. The 2 bedroom family cottage , which is housed in the original stables of the property has been lovingly restored to preserve its original character and features.
