The key is having the vision to take an existing structure and repurpose it into something fresh, functional and fabulous.

What are the advantages?

From a design standpoint, developing a historic property into a new home or business premises can yield spectacular results. Sensitively done, adaptive reuse creates continuity with the past to deliver one-of-a-kind period properties with authenticity and gravitas. This former grain silo, which was once the tallest building in sub-Saharan Africa, is now divided up in amazing fashion, including a huge atrium that cuts through the cylinders of several silos. Equally impressive is Eero Saarinen's conversion of the John F. Kennedy Airport’s 1960s terminal building into a hotel, a project that restored and refreshed many modernist details.
