Paiania is an eastern suburb of Athens located around 18km from the Athens city centre and 14km from the international airport of Athens. Paiania was one of the richest municipalities of ancient Athens and the place of origin of the famous Orator Demosthenes, who has given his form to the emblem of the city along with a vine leaf, an element of the Mediterranean flora that characterizes the area. The city is built on the outskirts of Mount Hymettus, surrounded by arable land. Unique features: The area is famous for its picturesque taverns but most are unaware that it has an incredible folklore and historical tradition. In the centre of the town, you will find Vassileos Konstantinou square that features the imposing Zoodochos Pigi church. In 2004, with the installation of the International Airport in the heart of the Mediterranean and the projects that followed, it acquired a good transport connection with the neighbouring areas and Athens. Accessibility: Paiania is a 30’ drive from the Athens city centre and only 15’ from the international airport of Athens. The suburb has access to the Attiki Odos and the Ymittos Ring Road, the Suburban Railway and the Attiko Metro through the "Kantza". Paiania is home to the Vorres Museum of Folk and Contemporary Art, the Foundation European Art Center (EUARCE) of Greece and Cave “Koutouki”, the biggest of the 60 caves found in Athens.
