Zahara de los Atunes is one of the most evocative coastal spots in Andalusia due to its untouched landscape, its clear and crystalline waters, its fine golden sandy coast, its people, its gastronomy, and so many charms. Located in a privileged enclave of the Cadiz coast, this small town stands out for its multitude of attractions that have drawn civilizations, tourists, and visitors for centuries to behold the treasures offered to those willing to open their minds and hearts and, of course, fall in love with this beautiful corner of our geography. Located at the foot of the Sierra del Retín and the mouth of the Cachón River, the Atlantic Ocean bathes every centimeter of its coastline with rugged and virtually untouched beauty. It borders with Barbate, a sister town, and the ancient city of Tarifa, being only 73 kilometers from Cádiz, the provincial capital, and 177 from Seville. This privileged location allows it to enjoy a Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures, making it an invitation to visit the city at any time of the year. The name of the town comes from tuna fishing with almadraba, a traditional fishing art that was already used in Roman times. Although today the main business is tourism, there are still some fishermen who work at the beginning of summer, during the migration season of this species. Its main attraction is the enormous 8-kilometer beach that has been spared from the wild urban development that plagues the rest of Andalusia. However, between Zahara and Tarifa lies Atlanterra, one of the most exclusive luxury tourism areas in Cádiz. Other notable beaches in the town are those of Canillo and Pajares, with Atlanterra being the most developed.
