Torrevieja is a coastal city and municipality in the southern part of the province of Alicante, in the Vega Baja region. It is situated in an area with high scenic and ecological value on the Mediterranean coast and next to the La Mata and Torrevieja lagoons, one of the most important wetlands in Valencia and one of the largest salt mines in Europe. The municipality of Torrevieja borders Guardamar del Segura in the north, Orihuela in the south, and Los Montesinos, Rojales, and San Miguel de Salinas inland. It has a 20 km coastline, from Playa de la Mata to Punta Prima, with many rocky coves and wide beaches, totaling 13. The beaches La Mata, Los Locos, El Cura, El Acequión, and Los Náufragos are notable. The city offers a wide range of shopping opportunities, with 2,500 shops of all kinds. It has many sports clubs, sports facilities, numerous educational centers, a private hospital, a public hospital, hotels, and shopping centers like Las Habaneras. The Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja offers members sailing, rowing, and other classes.
Very good air connections: 40 km from Alicante's El Altet Airport and 25 km south of San Javier Airport in Murcia.
It also has good train connections: RENFE stations in Alicante and Murcia. By car: National Road 332, Levante Road, Mediterranean Road, and highway A-37. By bus and boat: Torrevieja has a large port for private yachts and tourist boats offering cruises along the entire coast and to the island of Tabarca.
