Beschreibung
The Casa Grande de Cabanas, known as Pazo de Rioboo, is an impressive Baroque manor house built between 1669 and 1672, located on the road from Pontedeume to As Pontes, in the urban center of Cabanas. Its plot, measuring 17,359 m2, is completely walled with masonry and delineates areas designated for the house, orchard, vineyard, fruit trees, and gardens. The surface area designated for buildings is 700 m2, with a total constructed area of about 1,700 m2. In this area designated for buildings, in addition to the main building, there are other secondary structures originally intended for stables and now used for parking, a dovecote, a granary, and storage. The main building is composed of a semi-basement, ground floor, upper floor, and attic. The semi-basement is divided into a vestibule or foyer, storage room, cellar, and wine press. On the ground floor, we find a majestic hall, study, lounge, kitchen, dining room, office, and pantry. On the upper floor are the bedrooms, a drawing room, living rooms, and bathrooms, and finally, the attic is open-plan with impressive views of the estuary. The building has been restored with electrical, plumbing, and heating installations. It is noteworthy that the entire construction is made with thick masonry walls finished with granite ashlar pieces. The roof is slate and rests on a chestnut wood structure. It is also important to note that one of the points of interest of the Pazo is the mural paintings that emerge under the layers of white paint in one of the offices, unique and unusual Baroque paintings in Galician manor houses.
