Castellar de la Frontera is a Spanish municipality located in the province of Cádiz, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is part of the Campo de Gibraltar region. It borders the municipalities of San Roque, San Martín del Tesorillo, Jimena de la Frontera, Los Barrios and Alcalá de los Gazules, in the Los Alcornocales natural park, on the so-called Ruta del Toro. The municipality has three population centres, which are Castellar Viejo (colloquially known as El Castillo), Castellar Nuevo and La Almoraima. The old town was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1963. Castellar is popular for its medieval castle, a prominent tourist attraction. The municipality has a primary school, a secondary education institute, an adult education centre, as well as a public library and a theatre-cinema. The monuments of the importance of this site are Castillo de Castellar (Nasrid fortress built between the 12th and 15th centuries), Palace of the Counts of Castellar (residence of the Counts of Castellar), Church of Divino Salvador (17th century) Convent of San Miguel de La Almoraima (built in the 17th century in baroque style), Molino del Conde. A large part of the population is dedicated to the service sector, due to the proximity of the municipality with other population centres in Campo de Gibraltar, such as San Roque, La Línea de la Concepción, Los Barrios and Algeciras.
