Castellar de la Frontera is a Spanish municipality located in the province of Cádiz, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is part of the Campo de Gibraltar region. It borders the municipalities of San Roque, San Martín del Tesorillo, Jimena de la Frontera, Los Barrios, and Alcalá de los Gazules, within the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, on the so-called Ruta del Toro. The municipality has three population centers, which are Castellar Viejo (colloquially known as El Castillo), Castellar Nuevo, and La Almoraima. The old town was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1963. Castellar is popular for its medieval castle, a prominent tourist attraction. The municipality has a primary school, a secondary school, an adult education center, as well as a public library and a theater-cinema. The important monuments in this area include the Castle of Castellar (a Nasrid fortress built between the 12th and 15th centuries), the Palace of the Counts of Castellar (residence of the Counts of Castellar), the Church of the Divine Savior (17th century), the Convent of San Miguel de La Almoraima (built in the 17th century in Baroque style), and the Mill of the Count. A large part of the population is engaged in the service sector, due to the proximity of the municipality to other population centers in the Campo de Gibraltar, such as San Roque, La Línea de la Concepción, Los Barrios, and Algeciras.
