A Home for Eternity

Even on the approach to this stately residence in the Potsdam-Mittelmark region, one gets an immediate sense of the very special atmosphere that pervades this place. Surrounded by majestic trees, some of which date back many centuries, Rogäsen Manor was built in 1765 and lies nestled among the rolling hills of the Karower Plateau. “It captivated us from the very first moment we set eyes on it. It struck us straight away as a diamond in the rough,” recall the owners, Marion and Karl Geyer, thinking back to their first visit. With no end of passion and dedication, working closely with the Potsdam architectural firm Kühn-von Kaehne und Lange, they have dedicated many years to the meticulous and historically sensitive restoration of the estate. Their efforts have returned the listed property to its original splendour.
Today, beautiful roses climb the light-coloured façade and the loggia like in a scene straight out of a fairy tale. A peaceful, private retreat has been created for all those “who cherish the refined life of the countryside.”

The main front door of the manor opens directly into the stately vestibule. The historic wooden staircase, with its ornate banister, makes a striking first impression and an undeniably grand entrance; it is not hard to imagine elegantly dressed ladies and gentlemen descending the steps in centuries past. Fascinating history permeates every corner of this property. The Baroque layout, with its enfilades – the linear sequence of salons whose doors are perfectly aligned on a single axis – creates captivating sightlines from one room to the next.

Each salon welcomes visitors with exquisite stucco decoration, original hardwood or natural stone floors, and elegant interiors finished in warm colours or delicate pastel shades. Nowadays, civil weddings can be held in the drawing room with its grand fireplace, as well as in the garden room and on the loggia. In the adjacent music room, an elaborately decorated, star-patterned parquet floor, a hand-painted Meissen tiled stove dating from around 1900 and a historic grand piano from Leipzig’s famous Blüthner piano factory await visitors. Today, the “Friedrich II” suite in the meticulously restored side wing of the property recalls this glorious era. Each guest room is a unique retreat in its own right, thoughtfully furnished with antiques and complemented by state-of-the-art amenities in keeping with the comforts of modern-day life. Whether in the “Voltaire” single room, where views of the sunrise can be enjoyed, or in the green “Arkadien” double room with its bay window, every room in the manor inspires the imagination with its timeless charm. Just beside the main house stands the coach house, the former post station, now transformed into a guesthouse, offering an idyllic retreat overlooking the historic horse stables and the former estate church.

Large double doors open out onto the beautiful garden. The view extends beyond the checkerboard stone flooring to the vine-covered loggia and the approximately 1,000-square-metre garden parterre, above which a golden weather vane turns gently in the breeze. Beyond this garden lies 3.5 hectares of glorious parkland grounds. Laid out in the mid-19th century in the style of an English landscape garden with sweeping lawns, it merges seamlessly into the neighbouring Fiener Bruch nature reserve. It is a place of exceptional natural beauty. In the autumn, when the mist descends mysteriously across the meadows, or in the summertime, when birdsong fills the air, every season has its own unique delights. The owners cannot contain their enthusiasm for the natural beauty on offer: “Nightingales, kestrels, the unmistakable call of the oriole… Here, one’s inner spirit can come to find peace.”
