The property is located in the Ragusa area, specifically in the countryside of Chiaramonte, a beautiful town in the Iblean hinterland. Ragusa, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts the unique privilege of encompassing not only renowned Baroque historical centers like Scicli and Modica, but also other towns, perhaps lesser-known, yet of rare beauty. Chiaramonte is one of these gems. Situated to the north of Ragusa, it has long been called the “balcony of Sicily” for its panoramic position, offering views that stretch from Mount Etna to the sea. Of ancient origin, the town has witnessed, with varying fortunes, all the dominations that invaded Sicily. Its ancient name was Akrillai, later renamed Gulfi, and finally in 1296, Manfredi Chiaramonte, Count of Modica, gave the city his family’s name. It was built as a medieval town, surrounded by walls with a castle. After the earthquake of 1693, which nearly destroyed it, the town was rebuilt on the same site. In the 1800s, it was officially named Chiaramonte Gulfi. Today, it is a charming town perched on a hill, full of churches with Baroque façades. Chiaramonte is surrounded by gentle hills and slopes rich with olive trees and vineyards, reminiscent of the most beautiful parts of Tuscany, with the added benefit of sea views and being just 20 minutes from the beach. It is at the heart of olive oil production, derived from the ancient “Tonda Iblea” variety, of exceptional quality, and the recipient of numerous international awards, protected by the DOP Monti Iblei consortium. The countryside is dotted with large and small farmhouses, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Once discovered, this is a place you won’t want to leave, evidenced by the growing number of foreigners purchasing their second homes here after experiencing the sweet life in Chiaramonte.
