The Manduria area is located in the province of Taranto, in Puglia, and is a region rich in history, culture and traditions. Located just 25 km from Grottaglie, 40 km from the historic centre of Lecce and 40 km from Brindisi airport, Manduria is just a few kilometres from the Ionian Sea. This city is part of the so-called ‘Terra dei Messapi’ (Land of the Messapians), an area historically inhabited by the Messapians, an ancient pre-Roman population. The region is characterised by an agricultural landscape, with olive groves, vineyards and wheat fields, while the surrounding hills offer panoramic views of the plain and the sea. Manduria has historical roots dating back over 2500 years, having been an important Messapian and, later, Roman centre. Traces of these civilisations can be seen in various archaeological sites. Among the most significant monuments are the Castle of Manduria, the Messapian walls and numerous churches, such as the Church of St. Peter the Apostle and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Manduria is famous for its wine production, particularly Primitivo di Manduria DOC, a robust and aromatic red wine that is internationally renowned and has won numerous awards. Viticulture is a fundamental part of the local culture. Thanks to a mix of history, culture, food and wine, and nature, tourism has been growing rapidly in recent years, leading to important projects and investments in this area. In addition to historical sites, tourists can enjoy the beautiful beaches of the Ionian Sea, such as those of Campomarino and San Pietro in Bevagna, which are only a few kilometres from Manduria. The area also offers various opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking and cycling. The town hosts several traditional festivals, including the feast of St. Peter and Paul and the Manduria Fair, which celebrate local culture and traditions.
