The largest and most bustling of the Egadi archipelago, Favignana is only 9 miles from Trapani. The island offers both beaches and caves: from the fine sandy beaches of Cala Azzurra, Lido Burrone, and Calamoni to the pebble coves of Punta Lunga, Punta Sottile, and Faraglioni. The rockier areas, on the other hand, include Cala Rossa, Grotta Perciata, and Punta Fanfalo. The waters around the entire island are clear, transparent, and pristine, making both scuba diving and simple swimming a unique experience. Favignana was also home to one of the most important Sicilian tuna fisheries, now converted into a museum, the so-called former Florio Plant. Alongside it stand Palazzo Florio, the churches, the Norman castles of Santa Caterina and San Giacomo, as well as the famous archaeological area of San Nicola. True works of art are the tufa quarries, the most spectacular of which are found in the areas of Scalo Cavallo, Cala Rossa, and Bue Marino. The town of Favignana offers the possibility of a completely relaxing vacation, not forgetting to savor the traditional delicacies based on tuna and capers.
