Palmariggi is a small yet charming village in the Salento region, in the province of Lecce, located in the center of the Salento peninsula just a few kilometers from the splendid Adriatic coast. Despite its modest size, the town holds a rich combination of history, culture, popular traditions, and scenic beauty, making it an ideal destination for those seeking authenticity and tranquility. The historic center of Palmariggi retains the typical charm of Salento villages, with houses made of Lecce stone, white alleys, and small internal courtyards. Among the most representative places are: The Aragonese Castle (16th century), with its quadrangular tower and bastions, once part of the defensive system commissioned by Charles V to protect the territory from Turkish incursions. The Mother Church of San Luca Evangelista, built in the 17th century, which houses baroque altars and valuable paintings, typical of Salentine sacred art. The Chapel of the Madonna della Palma, located just outside the town, is linked to one of the most heartfelt devotions of the village. The Feast of the Madonna della Palma is indeed the most important event in the town. It is celebrated with processions, illuminations, fireworks, musical bands, and a fair that attracts visitors from all around the area. In summer, festivals dedicated to local products — olive oil, wine, and typical Salento dishes — highlight the convivial spirit of the village, along with cultural and musical events related to the Salento pizzica, the traditional dance that enlivens the evenings with tambourines and folk songs. Palmariggi is immersed in a rural landscape dominated by ancient olive groves, dry stone walls, and farmhouses. The area is perfect for hiking or cycling excursions, along trails leading to prehistoric dolmens and menhirs, witnesses of the ancient origins of the settlement. A few kilometers away are the beaches and cliffs of the Adriatic, particularly those of Otranto, Torre dell'Orso, and Santa Cesarea Terme, easily reachable in less than twenty minutes by car.
