Bevagna is a charming medieval village in the province of Perugia, known for its ancient history and for being included in the circuit of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.” The most famous event is the Mercato delle Gaite, a medieval historical reenactment that enlivens the streets in June with artisans, merchants, and performances, bringing ancient traditions and crafts back to life. Other events include religious reenactments such as the Procession of the Dead Christ on Good Friday. Bevagna's origins date back to before Roman times, and its importance grew significantly thanks to its strategic position along the Via Flaminia and the presence of a river port on the Topino River, which made it a thriving commercial and agricultural center. Evidence of this period includes the remains of a theater, a temple, and some thermal baths with mosaics. The SS3 Flaminia state road, a historic Roman consular road that crosses the Umbrian Valley, passes near Bevagna, and the A1 motorway is also easily accessible. The Umbria International Airport “San Francesco d'Assisi” is just over half an hour away by car, while both Rome International Airports, Ciampino and Fiumicino, are about 170-190 km away, with a driving time of about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Florence-Peretola “Amerigo Vespucci” International Airport, instead, is located about 180 km away.
