Rovereto is located about 25 km south of Trento and 70 km north of Verona. To the east lie the plateaus of Folgaria and Lavarone, to the southeast the Vallarsa and the Pasubio. To the north rises the Bondone mountain range. Lake Garda is about 15 km away, heading west. It is often called the City of the Oak (the oak, also known as "rovere," is the city's symbol, also present in the city crest) or City of Peace, referring to the presence of the Bell of the Fallen. It is a significant cultural center with the presence of the Museum of Contemporary Art, now known internationally.
