San Roque is a Spanish municipality and city located in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, that is, in the extreme southeast of the province of Cádiz, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It belongs to the Campo de Gibraltar region and its association with municipalities. It is the third city in its region, part of the Campo de Gibraltar metropolitan area, and the eleventh in the province. San Roque preserves all the symbols and titles that Gibraltar enjoyed during the Spanish presence. The main nucleus of the municipality, known as San Roque Centro or urban area, is located in the centre of the Bay of Algeciras and concentrates approximately 40% of the population of the municipality. The rest of the residents of San Roque live in a dozen neighbourhoods spread throughout the municipality. The economy of San Roque is based on the chemical, oil and energy industry, belonging to the municipality the most important industrial estate in Andalusia, which includes the Gibraltar-San Roque refinery and a power plant.
