Description

Villa Calamona is a typical Cilento stone building, located between Acciaroli and Pioppi, immersed in a splendid private park of about one hectare full of Mediterranean vegetation overlooking the sea and with access to the splendid 'bay of the seagulls' reachable only by sea. Three steep bends wind down to the entrance of the property. On the first floor there is the first apartment consisting of a large open kitchen, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. Outside the area has been enhanced with a large terrace with a brick oven and a barbecue where it is possible to dine outdoors; there is also an outdoor laundry area which is very practical and functional especially during the summer months. Around the villa other terraces, arranged at different levels, each characterized by a particular element. On the ground floor there is a delightful open space with kitchenette, double bed, bathroom with shower and an outdoor area equipped with sun beds and umbrellas. A small structure, covered by vegetation and located on a terrace below, represents another housing solution. The pebble beach and the clean and transparent sea are ideal for those who want to enjoy the wild beauty and tranquility of the splendid Cilento Natural Park. The garden deserves a special mention, embellished with rare and particular ornamental plants, a small lake with water lilies; agaves, prickly pears, eucalyptus, centuries-old olive trees, vineyards, oranges, mandarins and lemons, white and black mulberries that are said to be imported directly from Magna Graecia, a variety of flora that characterizes the tradition of the territory.

Location: Acciaroli, Campania

Less known than the most famous Amalfi Coast, but equally fascinating, the Cilento area is a true hidden gem of Campania. Located in the southern part of the region, between sea and mountains, in the province of Salerno, this enchanted land offers breathtaking views and unforgettable experiences. Moreover, for its splendid nature, the area of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park has become a protected natural oasis included by UNESCO in its list of World Heritage Sites. Villa Calamona is about 2 km from the center of Acciaroli and 4 km from the center of Pioppi, both known for the beautiful sea, 35 km from Agropoli, lively town on the outskirts of Cilento, about 80 from Salerno and 6 from Velia. The nearest railway station is in Ascea at about 7 km. Naples is 135 km away. The territory was already known in Roman times as the seat of those natural harbours equipped with the necessary for the storage of ships in transit in the Mediterranean, and subsequently, the beauty of the site led the Romans to build villas. The nearby Pioppi is now known as a crucial place for the research regarding the Mediterranean diet. In the seaside resort there are many scholars involved in preventive medicine research in the field of cardiovascular diseases and food styles, including the Seven Countries Study, directed by Ancel Keys. Some of them has then elected it as a summer residence and retreat after retirement. The Vinciprova Castle has hosted, over the years, numerous international conferences on the Mediterranean diet organized by the scientific community settled in the seaside village, ensuring a national and international reputation given by the considerable influx of foreign tourists even in the off-season.
