Description

In the heart of the Ugento natural park, a few steps from the beaches of Torre San Giovanni, in a spectacular and panoramic position, is the Villa Fontanelle. Residence of a local family since its construction, it is surrounded by a paradise of greenery and biodiversity, obtained with passion and dedication, concentrated in this place for more than forty years. The building is made with local tuff ashlars and develops with a living room with sea view, a kitchen and three bedrooms (which can become four thanks to a room used as a second kitchen). Outside the appurtenances of the house are a very large patio with a brick barbecue. A veranda with sea view finished in living stone; a walkable passage, all around the building. The surrounding garden is a paradise of monumental plants, of the Mediterranean scrub, some of great value, all enclosed in a high and secure fence, composed of a part in dry stone wall, in some sections over three meters high, surmounted by metal mesh. The entrance gate is imposing and opens onto a driveway finished in local stone that runs the entire length of the property. The differences in level in the land are such as to form natural cavities where a swimming pool can be added without the need for any excavation, maintaining the sea view and the infinite effect of the water. The terrace overlooking the sea is unforgettable. The view is enriched by the municipal pine forest, the hill and the town of the Torre San Giovanni marina, in the distance. Thanks to its rock garden, flanked by the planted one, this property communicates a unique and unrepeatable character. The colors range decisively from the dominant green, to the Caribbean blue of the sea, to the gray of the sunny stone, which is tinged with orange at sunset.A retreat in nature, which gives emotion.

Location: Ugento, Apulia

Torre San Giovanni, a hamlet of Ugento, is a town on the Ionian Sea in a privileged position, equidistant from Gallipoli and Santa Maria di Leuca, with one of the most exotic coastlines in the area. Together with Lido Marini, Torre Mozza and Mare Verde, it makes up the 15 km of coastline of the municipality of Ugento, mostly sandy. On this stretch are the coastal basins; the regional natural park that extends from the sea to the highest part of the hill behind and of course kilometers of highly sought-after beaches. The marina has a few hundred inhabitants in the cold part of the year, but many commercial and restaurant activities are open all year round. From April the number of inhabitants grows, until it becomes one of the most popular centers in the province in the summer. It has a port mainly occupied by fishing boats and small private boats. There is no shortage of rental, excursion and diving services. In the nearest hinterland are Presicce and Acquarica, among the most beautiful villages in Italy, with a dense network of underground oil mills and Baroque-style churches. The municipality of Salve, which includes the marinas of Pescoluse, Torre Vado and Posto Vecchio. Small towns and locations, now known and sought after by many travellers and in all seasons: for the always warm temperature, for the lifestyle, for the genuine food and because in this area the sun is the undisputed protagonist, together with the sea. And yet there is more: Ugento. This city has a very important archaeological museum, with findings that also enrich the collection of the Taranto museum, such as the Zeus of Ugento. And it has a history known in the Messapian era that continually emerges from archaeological activities. A pleasant discovery in the hinterland, for those who are not satisfied with just so much coastal beauty.
