Known as the most romantic Italian lake, Lago d’Orta is a pre-alpine lake, located a few kilometres away from Lago Maggiore and just an hour-ride from Milan and Tourin. With its restaurants, as well as resorts and accommodation facilities of a rare beauty, Lago d’Orta is also famous for hosting renown chefs and entrepreneurs. In the middle we can spot San Giulio Island, symbol of this land, which attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year. Among the most characteristic towns, in addition to Ameno and Miasino, with the enchanting Villa Nigra, there is undoubtedly Orta, with its Sacro Monte, the historic centre rich in cobblestone alleys, the central square where you can take the ferry to San Giulio and the panoramic walk among the sumptuous villas. On the opposite shore we find Pella: a charming town, which you can also reach through a natural path, that starts from Lido di Gozzano and runs along the lake. Not far from here, the Santuario della Madonna del Sasso stands out on a rocky spur overlooking the lake. The panorama is exciting and breathtaking, made up of slopes and green peaks reflecting in the water. Going northward, we will first meet Oira, worth a visit, and then Omegna, one of the biggest towns, where the Strona river curiously flows backwards. Lago d’Orta clear water makes it a bathing lake, offering different sport activities, such as swimming, sailing, canoeing and diving. Surrounded by green mountains, it also offers a great variety of natural paths, some leading up to the summit of Monte Mottarone, above Stresa. It is not far from Val d’Ossola, the perfect place for those who like spending time in the mountains, both during summer and winter. A quiet place, rich in history, where you can find your new home.
